The essential elements of
the PYP include a set of skills that are trans-disciplinary in the sense that
they transcend one discipline or subject area. They are also referred to as
Approaches to Learning (ATL) because they enable learners to construct meaning
as they inquire into different ideas. These trans-disciplinary skills are:
Thinking Skills, Self-Management Skills, Communications Skills, Research
Skills, and Social Skills.
